#ThrowbackThursday - DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince: Summertime

QUICKLY HIT PLAY – QUICKLY. While the sun is still out for goodness sake PLAY THIS SONG otherwise people will look at you like “Summer time? Mate, the sky and the concrete are the same colour right now, put down the weed.” 6 months after I was born way back in December 1990, Will “Fresh Prince” Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff dropped this Grammy award winning interpolation of Kool & The Gang’s Summer Madness, cementing the number one spot in the US charts, and a respectable #8 in the elusive UK one. The song is one of the Fresh Prince’s most popular songs and for good reason: no other song embodies that ‘call up your friends to chill in the park’, 'appreciate the choice of clothes the opposite sex elects to wear at this time of year (or lack of)', ‘dust your sunglasses off and take selfies’ kind of vibe quite like this one, and it’s beautiful. So sit back and enjoy this week’s #ThrowbackThursday (#SendYouBackSaturday edition) selection, Summertime by The Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
